Practice scenes / Inner Ring Road lights
Inner Ring Road lights Junction Practice
Carry on when stopping would be the dangerous choice. An advanced scene set at Inner Ring Road · R709 in Waterford.
The situation
The lights turn amber at the moment your front wheels reach the line. You are past the point where you could pull up without standing on the brakes.
What makes it tricky
Stopping from here means braking hard across the line. Carry on through.
The rule
An amber light means stop, unless you are so close to the line when it first appears that stopping would be dangerous. That exception is this situation. Braking hard on an amber the car should clearly have carried through is marked against you.
- Rules of the Road, Section 7 · Traffic lights and signals
Getting it right
You were too close to stop safely when the amber showed, so you carried on.
What is marked here
A tester marking this situation would be looking at 3 things:
- Mirrors
- Reaction to hazards
- Traffic controls
This is a simplified teaching diagram at a real road. It isn't a test route and it isn't navigation. Always follow the actual signs, markings and conditions on the road.
