Inner Ring Road Cyclists and Pedestrians Practice
Let the cyclist pass before turning left. An advanced scene set at Inner Ring Road · R709 in Waterford.
The situation
A cyclist is travelling ahead alongside you. Identify the cyclist, check your left blind spot, and wait before turning across their path.
What makes it tricky
The cyclist is still alongside. Turning left would cut across their path.
The rule
Mirrors alone may miss a cyclist beside the vehicle. Check carefully before crossing a cycle lane and do not overtake immediately before turning left.
- Rules of the Road, Section 19 · Respecting other road users (Cyclists and motorcyclists)
Getting it right
You checked the blind spot and let the cyclist clear your turn.

This is a simplified teaching diagram at a real road. It isn't a test route and it isn't navigation. Always follow the actual signs, markings and conditions on the road.
