The Quay Road Markings Practice
Cross only when your exit is clear. An intermediate scene set at Merchants Quay · R680 in Waterford.
The situation
The light is green, but traffic beyond the yellow box is stationary. Wait for enough space for your whole car.
What makes it tricky
Your exit is blocked. Entering now would leave your car stopped inside the yellow box.
The rule
For this straight-ahead manoeuvre, do not enter until the exit is clear. The exception for certain right turns is not being used here.
- Rules of the Road, Section 9 · Junctions and roundabouts (Yellow box junctions)
Getting it right
You kept the box clear until there was space beyond the junction.
What is marked here
A tester marking this situation would be looking at 6 things:
- Mirrors
- Observation
- Traffic controls
- Progress
- Reaction to hazards
- Rules & checks
This is a simplified teaching diagram at a real road. It isn't a test route and it isn't navigation. Always follow the actual signs, markings and conditions on the road.
