Merchants Quay lights Junction Practice
Stop at the control line, then go only when it is safe. An intermediate scene set at Merchants Quay · R680 in Waterford.
The situation
None of the lamps at this junction are lit. Nothing is controlling who goes.
What makes it tricky
With the lights out of order you must stop at the control line first, then let the traffic that has right of way through.
The rule
Out-of-order lights do not turn a controlled junction into an open road. You must stop at the control line and only proceed when it is safe, giving way to all other traffic that has right of way.
- Rules of the Road, Section 7 · Traffic lights and signals
Getting it right
You stopped at the control line, looked both ways and went only when it was safe.
What is marked here
A tester marking this situation would be looking at 5 things:
- Mirrors
- Observation
- Reaction to hazards
- Right of way
- Traffic controls
This is a simplified teaching diagram at a real road. It isn't a test route and it isn't navigation. Always follow the actual signs, markings and conditions on the road.
