Ballytruckle Hazard Awareness Practice
Pass the parked van when the road is clear. An intermediate scene set at Ballytruckle Road in Waterford.
The situation
A parked van blocks your side of the road. Identify it, check around you, and wait for the oncoming car before moving out.
What makes it tricky
The oncoming car needs the space you would use to pass. Hold back behind the van.
The rule
Leave room for doors opening and people emerging. The training lane has a broken centre line. Check actual signs and markings before changing position.
- Rules of the Road, Section 5 · Good driving practice
Getting it right
You held back, checked the blind spot and passed only when the oncoming lane was clear.
What is marked here
A tester marking this situation would be looking at 8 things:
- Mirrors
- Signals
- Observation
- Right of way
- Clearance
- Overtake safely
- Progress
- Reaction to hazards
This is a simplified teaching diagram at a real road. It isn't a test route and it isn't navigation. Always follow the actual signs, markings and conditions on the road.
